# Announcing Calico 1.3.0

By [Shaun Crampton](https://www.tigera.io/blog/author/shauncrampton/) on Feb 29, 2016 • 2 min read

Today we’re pleased to announce the release of [version 1.3.0](https://github.com/projectcalico/calico/releases/tag/1.3.0-felix) of the core Calico components and the accompanying version 1.1.2 of our OpenStack integration. This release is the culmination of 6 months of work, primarily focused on improving performance and occupancy at high scale. Our testing included running

- 100,000 containers across 1,000 hosts with a startup rate of ~165 containers per second. This test included verifying network connectivity in every container and imposing “bookended” distributed security rules.

- 10,000 VMs across 500 OpenStack hosts with a churn rate of 6 VMs per second.

The 1.1.2 release of our OpenStack integration includes the new Calico DHCP agent for OpenStack Liberty and above. The new DHCP agent has significant scale and CPU usage benefits over the Neutron DHCP agent when using Calico.

We’ve also made sure the versioning of our docs is back in sync with the release and fixed up a number of docs issues raised over the last few weeks.

- Please follow [the](http://docs.projectcalico.org/en/1.3.0/opens-upgrade.html)[upgrade guide](http://docs.projectcalico.org/en/1.3.0/opens-upgrade.html) to update your OpenStack cluster to use the latest version of Calico.

- For a new OpenStack install, you should follow the [packaged install guide](http://docs.projectcalico.org/en/1.3.0/openstack.html).

- For other environments (including Docker, Mesos, Kubernetes, and rkt), watch this space… we’re still completing the integration of those orchestrator plug-ins with the new core components, and expect to release them over the coming few days.

As always, please do let us know how you get on (whether you’re successful or hit problems) – the best place for that being the #general or #openstack channels on the Calico users #slack. You can get an invite [here](https://slack.projectcalico.org/), if you’re not on it already.

Kubernetes has come a long way since its debut in 2014. It’s gone from running a couple of containerized microservices to orchestrating fleets of production workloads spanning everything from AI agents to full scale VMs...

Practically no one runs a single Kubernetes cluster in production these days. Maybe that’s how it started but data sovereignty requirements, acquisitions, AI initiatives and the need for edge servers, among other considerations, have pulled...
