Since its release, the Tigera Operator has become the preferred installation method for Calico. Operators are Kubernetes-native applications that implement and automate common Day-1 (installation, configuration, etc.) and Day-2 (re-configuration, update, backup, failover, restore, etc.) activities in your Kubernetes cluster, by integrating natively with Kubernetes concepts and APIs. To be able to make the most of Kubernetes, you need a set of cohesive APIs to extend in order to service and manage your applications that run on Kubernetes. You can think of an Operator as the runtime that manages this function.
In this session we will discuss the benefits that the Tigera Operator delivers as a unified installation resource for enabling features in Calico, including ease of installation, self-healing capabilities, automatic remediation of configuration errors, and automatic scaling of support infrastructure. In addition, we will explore the upgrade path from a manifest installation to the Tigera Operator and what you should expect.
A Calico Enterprise trial is available after this session and you will be able to practice these use cases on your own within a hosted lab.
