Securing your applications and Azure Kubernetes Service Clusters with Calico

In this Microsoft AKS-focused session, attendees will learn from two Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service experts how to improve your cluster and hosted application security posture on AKS leveraging Calico networking and security policies to simplify the identification and resolution of key security controls. Steve and Tommy will discuss real-world challenges they’ve seen in working with numerous Azure partners and customers, as well as best practices for addressing those challenges and how Calico Cloud makes addressing those challenges so much easier.

The attendees we’ll learn the following;

  • At a high level how the Azure network stack is leveraged in the deployment of Azure Kubernetes Service
  • How AKS can be enabled with Calico networking and security policy and its benefits
  • Real-world examples of implementation challenges that Calico Cloud helps to address
 

About the speakers

Tommy Falgout Cloud Solution Architect, Microsoft

Tommy loves to build. His formative years were obsessed with LEGO and now he's a Sr. Cloud Solution Architect where he helps Microsoft partners build secure, large-scale distributed applications on Azure and Kubernetes.

He has been on Nickelodeon as a Trebuchet Expert (he even has an IMDB page) and was most recently on the Red Bull Soapbox Race designed at the Plano Makerspace. Ask him about Robo-Clippy and his LED Lanyard project.

Steve Griffith Global Black Belt, Microsoft

Steve is a 20-year veteran of the software design and delivery industry. He spent the early part of his career leading solution integration development and application load testing in the financial services sector for Accenture Consulting. He then moved into a core solution architecture role where he managed the design, delivery, and support of the underlying technical architecture for Accenture’s Duck Creek Claims platform. Later, he took on both client and internal support roles as the engineering lead for Duck Creek's SaaS (Duck Creek On-Demand) while also serving as Director of Duck Creek IT and IS.

After 13 years at Accenture/Duck Creek, Steve joined Microsoft where he spent his first 4 years as a Cloud Solution Architect, helping customers design and deliver large-scale enterprise solutions across the Azure Portfolio of Services.

For the last 3 years, Steve has worked as a member of the App Innovation Global Black Belt team where he serves as a Principal Technical Specialist. His current role is focused on supporting customers across the Americas as they design and deliver solutions using Microsoft Modern Cloud Native Application Services including Azure Kubernetes Service.
