Kubernetes Security and Observability Leader Tigera Opens New EMEA HQ in Cork

Firm boosts presence outside US by creating full-service site in city centre with 35 jobs

Kubernetes security and observability firm, Tigera, is to create 35 new jobs in Cork as it establishes a new EMEA headquarters in the city. This will be Tigera’s first base in the EU and its fifth in total since it was founded in San Francisco in 2016.

Kubernetes allows teams to automate deploying, scaling and managing applications. It is an open-source platform, originally developed at Google and now part of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). It is one of the most popular open-source technologies in the world.

Tigera provides Kubernetes security and observability for multi-cluster, multi-cloud, and hybrid cloud deployments. The company’s products enable organizations of all sizes in various industries to secure, observe, and troubleshoot cloud-native applications in Kubernetes environments. Tigera is also the inventor and maintainer of open-source Calico, the most widely adopted solution for Kubernetes networking and security, powering 1M+ nodes daily across 166 countries.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin said “I am delighted Tigera has chosen Cork to host its new EMEA headquarters, creating 35 new high-quality jobs. Today’s announcement is good news for Cork and the South-West, and speaks to the strength, skills, and talent of our workforce. I look forward to a long and fruitful relationship between Cork and Tigera in the years come.”

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar TD, said “Tigera is an industry leader. This announcement demonstrates the ability of Cork and the South West region to attract really high quality foreign direct investment, creating jobs for the local community.”

Recruitment is underway for a wide range of roles at the new EMEA HQ in Cork city centre, including software engineering, sales, customer success, and marketing.

Peter Kelly is the Director of Engineering and Site Leader for Tigera in Ireland. He says the international team has been hugely impressed with the talent available here: “As a Cork native, I am very proud that such a high-potential, high-growth company as Tigera has chosen this location for their EMEA HQ. Tigera is at the cutting-edge of cloud computing, supporting a huge community of open source users of Project Calico in addition to working with some of the largest enterprises in the world. It is incredibly exciting to be building a team here that will be a core part of the future success of Tigera.”

President and CEO of Tigera, Ratan Tipirneni, says opening the Irish base marks an important development for the company: “Some of the key factors that attracted Tigera to Cork include the high standard of talent, the city’s impressive technology hub, access to the EU market and languages, IDA support, and most importantly of all a great cultural alignment with what Tigera is looking for. Since the beginning, Tigera has enjoyed major success through its commitment to providing open-source products that are trusted by the world’s leading companies, and we look forward to the Cork team’s contribution to that journey.”

IDA Ireland CEO Martin Shanahan said: “Tigera’s decision to establish its EMEA HQ in Cork is a welcome addition to the region’s growing Cyber Security cluster, a strong endorsement in the South West’s highly skilled and talented workforce and endorses IDA Ireland’s track record in winning jobs and investment for regional locations. I welcome Tigera to Ireland and wish the team every success with this expansion.”
